Royal Malewane offers day trips for pupils and teachers at the local Sihlekisi Primary School. This involves an educational Game Drive and a lunch on the reserve. The Royal Malewane team wants to share their love and passion for nature and conservation with the surrounding community. We aim to expose the children to the importance of eco-tourism and inspire an environmentally sustainable future. If you would like to be part of or sponsor a class for a trip, this can be done at R2000. We are proud sponsors of the annual school prize giving, where we sponsor trophies and awards to motivate and high achieving students.

  • Photocopy machine – R4000
  • Day Trips – R2000 per class
  • Stationery per quarter – R1000
  • End of year awards function  – R1500

We invite guests to join us as we visit Sihlekisi, which is about a 15 minute drive from the main lodge. All transfers are complimentary. You are welcome to make a donation towards an item on the wish list or take a gift with you (we have gift packs of necessities available to purchase from our curio shop for your convenience). Please note that the school is closed during school holidays, if requested in advance we may be able to arrange for guests to view the school premises at times when the school is closed.

100% of all donations received are put into these projects.

A Message From Liz Biden

South Africa's international borders are now open for all international travel. Travellers require a certified, negative test result taken within 72 hours from the time of departure as well as travel insurance.

Birkenhead House, La Residence and Royal Malewane are open and we look forward to welcoming international visitors back to our beautiful country which offers the perfect tonic to the challenges of the pandemic. The Silo Hotel will reopen on 1 December 2020.

To celebrate, we are offering guests the opportunity to spend 6 nights at any of our properties and only pay for 5 until 31 May 2021.

We have taken every precaution to keep our guests and staff safe. Our hotels and lodges comply with the strictest TBCSA and WHO hygiene protocols and provide ample space for social distancing. South Africa itself has one of the best private healthcare systems in the world.

The Royal Portfolio Foundation remains committed to supporting numerous conservation and community projects including our counter-poaching initiatives and various Covid-19 Relief Feeding Schemes.
