Masibulele Crèche is situated in the Zwelihle area, a 15-minute drive from Birkenhead House. It was opened in 1993 and in 2000 Sweetness took over as the principal. Today, the crèche looks after about 80 children ranging from infancy to five years old, with the help of six committed teachers. The team relies on the local council for support, but so much more is needed. The vision is to uplift Masibulele Crèche to where they can offer growth through education.
Birkenhead House supports a feeding scheme at the crèche through ingredient provisions and the establishment and maintenance of a productive vegetable garden, which is used as an educational tool as well as a source of fresh produce for school meals. Our chef delivers additional food, and through the generous support of our guests we have also been successful in completing numerous maintenance, renovation, and construction of crucial infrastructure for the crèche, which is in a critically underserviced area.
