Whale Watching

Gain fascinating insights into the lives of these gentle giants.

Whale watching can be done on land (at Birkenhead House), at sea or in the air. For those looking to get up close and personal with the Southern Right and Humpback whales we recommend heading out on the ocean with a company called Dyer Island Cruises – their primary focus is on marine conservation and research – they are part of the same company that we use for Shark Cage Diving – Marine Dynamics.

TIME OF ACTIVITY: 09h15, 11h45 & 14h15 (provisional)
WHAT TO WEAR: Warm clothes
WHAT TO TAKE: Camera, sunscreen
SUMMARY: On arrival at the “Great White House” guests are given a briefing about conservation, the habitat of the whale, safety on the boat, etc. This takes approximately 20 minutes. Guests are then given life jackets and escorted down to the harbour. The boat trip lasts for about 3 hours and the boat takes 22 passengers. After the trip, guests can enjoy refreshments at the Great White House while watching a video of their trip.

For those looking for a unique perspective, there is nothing quite as incredible as soaring over the Atlantic Ocean to witness the spectacular marine life from above. We use a company called African Wings who take off from nearby Stanford.
