Mother Nature's Classroom
Royal Malewane started as the Biden family’s holiday home in the bush – it’s always been a wonderful place for kids and adults to explore, share and make memories together. Having seen how much enjoyment their own kids got from being on safari, Liz and Phil wanted to make the magic of Royal Malewane available to more families.
The bushveld is a wonderful blend of playground and classroom, and our Guides particularly enjoy introducing children and teenagers to the wonders of Nature. With a full programme of activities for kids of all ages, and optional extra child-minding services, there are also opportunities for parents to enjoy some alone time in complete peace of mind.
Royal Malewane is a place where every moment is quality time, and families are always welcome.

Guides Who Are Great With Kids
Our Guides are some of the most qualified in Africa. More than that, they’re passionate about creating exciting, stimulating family safari experiences in the bushveld, and back at the lodge.
They love having the chance to engage kids’ imaginations by sharing their expert knowledge of tracks and signs, and explaining animal behaviour in ways that will prompt kids to dig deeper and ask more questions as their thirst for knowledge grows.

Royal Rangers
Our Royal Rangers programme has been designed to reveal the wonders of the bushveld to our younger guests, and ignite their curiosity about wildlife and ecosystems. With each activity led by Guides who greatly enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of children, Royal Malewane transforms education into an adventure.
Our optional Royal Rangers programme provides each kid with a fully equipped bush backpack so that they have everything they need to help out on safari, and keep a record of all the animals and birds they’ve seen. Meanwhile, slightly older kids can take part in our Junior Rangers course and brush up on their tracking skills.
Kids At Royal Malewane
It’s not hard to see why youngsters love Royal Malewane. Our team will always go the extra mile to tailor the experience to the needs of our younger guests, with options including our Royal Cubs Spa menu, flexible mealtimes and menus, and indoor and outdoor activities.
The minimum age for kids at Royal Malewane, Farmstead and Waterside is 10 (with the exception of our Royal Suites and Baobab Suites, where there is no age restriction).
Children of all ages are welcome at our exclusive-use private bush villas (Africa House, Farmhouse and Waterside House), making these the perfect options for multigenerational quality time on safari.
