The Friends of Child Protection (FCP) organization was founded by a group of Cape Town women wanting to assist children that are victims of abuse.

FCP focuses on supporting child victims in the first few hours of trauma by giving each child a Comfort Pack. Comfort Packs are designed to soothe and comfort a child victim of sexual abuse during the time they have to wait at police stations and hospitals for questioning and a traumatic medical examination.  The Comfort Packs are given directly to abused children by Doctors/Nurses, Investigating Officers or Social Workers.

Since January 2006, the FCP have packed 62 812 Comfort Packs and distributed them throughout the Western Cape. They pack over 1 200 Comfort Packs every second month and distribute these to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units, nine hospitals, the Wynberg Sexual Offences Courts, four Safeline – Centres for the Treatment and Prevention of Child Abuse.

The Packs are age and gender appropriate and include basic necessities such as underwear and toiletries. They also contain items to soothe and comfort the children such as bubbles, balls, spinning tops, notebooks, pencils and soft toys.

Included in every Comfort Pack is a Snack Pack as these children often have to wait many hours at police stations or at hospitals for medical attention or at the Children’s Court to testify. The Snack Pack provides sustenance for them during this period.

For many, these Comfort Packs are the first new items they have ever received, and often the first items that belong entirely to them, even though, in most cases, the toothbrush, facecloth, soap and deodorant are used by the whole family.

If you would like to purchase a Care Pack for a child at R100, please contact the relevant property accordingly:

A Message From Liz Biden

Our thoughts are with those around the world battling the direct and indirect effects of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Even though our hotels remain closed, The Royal Portfolio Foundation remains committed to supporting numerous conservation and community projects through this difficult time including our counter-poaching initiatives at Royal Malewane and various Covid-19 Relief Feeding Schemes which need our help now more than ever.

We invite you to take the first step in planning your next trip by purchasing A Royal Portfolio Bond. You will receive an additional 25% in value and we will contribute ZAR2,500 to the Foundation on your behalf.

We encourage those with existing bookings to postpone rather than cancel their trips where possible. Our Reservations Team is available to assist with enquiries Mon – Fri | 8am to 5pm (GMT +2).

Thank you to our guests, staff, suppliers and business partners for your understanding and incredible support as we work together to get through this.

Please visit the South African government's dedicated Covid-19 portal for the latest South African information.

We look forward to a time when we are all able to travel safely and responsibly once again and hope that you will remain inspired by the amazing natural beauty and wildlife of Africa during this difficult time.
