An Intimate Retreat at Farmstead

AcommodationSafari

Safari Solitude

Farmstead at Royal Malewane is a small, intimate lodge accommodating a total of six guests at any one time. It’s quiet, secluded, and rustic yet contemporary, making it the right choice for couples wanting to enjoy the serenity of their time in the bush without distraction.

Room with a View

Farmstead was designed to create the feeling of a laid-back sanctuary. Each suite is its own private oasis and opens onto a wooden deck with a plunge pool surrounded by wilderness. The spacious bedroom leads to an oversized en-suite bathroom featuring a bath and both indoor and outdoor showers.

Enjoy that first early morning coffee on your private verandah before going on a game drive or enjoy the sun going down from your own private little piece of heaven. Having a nap on the outdoor loungers is always an option, and there is every opportunity to completely relax and take some well-deserved time out. Our staff are here to help create your perfect stay, making every romantic moment count.

Designed with Love in Mind

So much heart has been put into Farmstead. While it might be hidden away from the world in its special corner of the bushveld, every aspect of design has been planned for maximum comfort and extreme delight. Rustic elements balance out the contemporary aesthetic with touches of brilliance from Africa. There is a definite sense of place and creative expression – Farmstead showcases pieces by Kudzanai Chiurai and James Jana alongside selections from the AVA Gallery, Smith Studio and the Lalela community art initiative.

Antique doors from Lamu and Mombasa welcome guests into interiors that blend modern style with understated but cosy comforts. Fabrics from Ardmore and Clarke & Clarke add colour and add to the unfolding story — perfectly juxtaposed against light oak, tin roofs, and wrought iron, enhancing a natural foundation and an easy flow. Muted blues and whites complement bold touches of emerald and ruby, and custom-made hanging daybeds invite quiet moments of stillness and awe.

Together in the Wild

While the suites offer the ultimate haven for connection and contemplation, it’s in the outdoors where romance naturally unfolds without much effort in the magnificent bushveld setting.

Start your morning with a guided bush walk, where being on foot brings nature’s wonders up close and every sense is awakened. As a beautiful sunrise paints the sky, savour your coffee or tea while absorbing the present moment together.

The lodge’s expert guiding team, recognised as Africa’s most qualified, leads twice-daily game drives, another opportunity to traverse the wild and rugged landscape. Being on a game drive is so much more than looking out for wildlife; it’s about the conversations, the camaraderie, the small discoveries, and the opportunity to take it all in, together.

Between adventures in the bush, you can unwind by your private pool or share a treatment at the Spa Treatment Room or the Royal Waters Spa, which is a 10-minute drive away at Malewane Lodge. The spa has a double treatment room and a range of treatments and therapies, as well as a lap pool and a well-equipped fitness centre.

Every Meal is a Celebration

You have the choice to dine on the deck beside your private pool. Let us know your preferences and we’ll ensure our chefs prepare a beautiful meal to be enjoyed in your suite. The food is fresh and served as small-plate tapas, ideal for sharing. A private outdoor under the stars is always a highlight – unhurried dishes packed with taste and flavour are perfectly paired with award-winning wines.

Alternatively, join other guests in the intimate dining, a refined and elegant space to enjoy a delicious meal and the undivided attention of our excellent staff. After dinner, the fire pit provides a natural gathering point where guests can reflect on their day’s discoveries under the stars. The romance of fire combined with a bright African night sky adds to a sense of being in sync with the surrounding wilderness and each other.
