As many find themselves at home and anxious during this uncertain time, it’s important to take a moment to be good to yourself. Take care of your own mental and physical health with some simple recipes from our expert spa therapists.

Nicole Abrahams from The Silo Spa has shared her hydrating and anti-ageing Cocoa Face Mask. La Residence’s General Manager, Edward Morton, shares his immune-boosting tea and a simple lavender body exfoliator. Lastly, a cleansing Oatmeal & Honey body scrub all the way from the Waters of Royal Malewane Bush Spa.

Nicole Abraham's DIY Cocoa Face Mask

Nicole loves this recipe because it only uses four simple ingredients that can easily be found in most kitchens and grocery stores. Sour cream, honey, egg white and raw cocoa powder. Sour cream is derived from lactic acid which helps with hydration as well as provides a light exfoliation. Honey acts as a humectant which is great for retaining moisture without leaving the skin too oily. For firmer skin, Nicole adds egg white as it contains protein which tightens the skin. Lastly, raw cocoa powder is loaded with antioxidants. These mini warriors fight off free radicals and improve skin elasticity for a more youthful appearance.

Ingredients For Cocoa Face Mask

1 tablespoon of raw cocoa powder
1 tablespoon of sour cream
1 tablespoon of honey
1 egg white only

Mix all the ingredients until you have an even consistency. The more you mix, the better the consistency will be. Apply the mixture generously to your face. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and relax. Rinse with cool water. Make sure the face mask is fully removed from your face.

Edward Morton’s Immune Boosting Muti & Lavender Body Exfoliation

Muti is a South African word that describes traditional medicines. Our General Manager at La Residence, Edward Morton, is an advocate of two or three cups of this delicious drink a day. It has its roots in Hipocrate’s time and is a wonderful ally in fighting colds and flu.

Ingredients For Immune Boosting Muti

1 Mug of Boiling Water
1 Tablespoon of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with The Mother
Juice of Half a Lemon
Teaspoon of Raw Honey
Teaspoon of Cinnamon

La Residence’s Lavender body exfoliation recipe is a simple and affordable exfoliating scrub that you can easily make at home. It will leave your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated. Mix all the ingredients below with a pestle and mortar and apply generously to the body, rubbing gently across the skin. This mixture is a little too rough for the face.

Ingredients For Lavender Body Scrub

2 Cups of Epsom Salts
Min 3 Drops of Lavender Essential Oils (Add Until Scented To Your Preference)
Min 3 Drops of Tea Tree Essential Oils (Add Until Scented To Your Preference)

Royal Malewane's Oatmeal & Honey Body Scrub

The spa at Royal Malewane is an oasis of a very special sort – a chance to refresh and restore mind, body and spirit amid the serenity and peace of the bush. This cleansing Oatmeal & Honey body scrub pays hommage to the peacefulness found in the Greater Kruger National Park and contains exfoliating, moisturising and soothing benefits. Mix all the ingredients below together and apply generously to the body. Rub gently across the skin while avoiding the face.

Ingredients For Oatmeal & Honey Body Scrub

1/2 cup oatmeal raw
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup jojoba oil or can use coconut oil
A few drops of essential oils (optional)
