Africa From the Air
The Greater Kruger
Flying out of Royal Malewane in a helicopter means every flight begins and ends with a view of the Kruger wilderness below, and the time in between is a breath-taking show of waterfalls, rivers, and scenic champagne stops.
Circle the Blyde River Canyon
A two-hour flip slots in perfectly between morning and afternoon game drive, so you don’t have to miss a thing. It’s a spectacular round trip that starts and ends at Royal Malewane and takes you on an awe-inspiring journey to the Blyde River Canyon, which is lush and green all year round.
Feel the air temperature plummet when you soar to the top of the mountain and watch the scenery transform as you ascend from the Lowveld of the Kruger Park up to the grasslands and waterfalls above.
Take the canyon sightseeing cruise to the next level and land on the mountain top for a picnic. Your journey will sweep between the Blyde Canyon walls and take you eye-to-eye with features of a landscape you wouldn’t otherwise know existed.
You’ll stop for a bite to eat along one of the sparkling streams that course through the grassy surface of the mountaintop. The sounds and smells of a whole different ecosystem will meet your senses as you choose the perfect patch of ground for a gourmet picnic. Nothing left to do but take it all in, toast to the adventure, and get ready to see it all again on your way back to Royal Malewane.
Waterfall Flight and Restaurant Lunch
Waterfalls bring an ethereal kind of magic to the natural world, especially when you get to enjoy them from a new perspective. In the cockpit of the helicopter, you’ll fly over a series of waterfalls well known on the Panorama Route.
Start at Bourke’s Luck Potholes and explore the spectacular waterfalls dotted further south, like Lisbon Falls, Berlin Falls, Mac Mac Falls, and Panorama Falls. Top it off with a landing at a quaint town along the mountain pass below and stay for lunch and refreshments at a much-loved restaurant before returning home where your Royal Malewane team will be ready to welcome you.
Flight to the Graskop Gorge Lift
Make a day of it and let your helicopter excursion lead you to an adventurous destination outside the little Lowveld town of Graskop. Your flight will depart from the Royal Malewane airstrip and take you over the jaw-dropping mountainous terrain to a landing at the Graskop Gorge Lift.
This is the adventure centre of the Panorama Route and a colourful hub of natural scenery, cultural celebration, and adrenalin activities. There is an indigenous forest at the bottom of the gorge and a boardwalk that will lead you on a self-guided tour through the age-old trees and all the life connected to them.
