Comfort In Crisis
Child and sexual abuse remains a devastating reality for many children across South Africa, requiring immediate and compassionate intervention. The Friends of Child Protection (FCP) organisation was founded by a group of Cape Town women who wanted to assist children who are victims of trauma. FCP focuses on supporting child victims during the first few hours of trauma by giving each child a comfort pack containing snacks, toiletries, activities and a soft toy.
Comfort packs are designed to soothe and comfort child victims of sexual abuse while they wait at police stations and hospitals for questioning and traumatic medical examinations. The comfort packs are given directly to abused children by doctors, nurses, investigating officers or social workers.
Since January 2006, FCP has packed over 100,000 comfort packs and distributed them throughout the Western Cape. In addition to providing financial assistance, The Royal Portfolio Foundation team helps with packing the comfort packs.
