I thought I liked things simple and sepia in the bush in Africa. And why bother with a plunge pool when you have an elephant at the watering hole to contemplate? But that was before I spent a long weekend at The Farmstead at Royal Malewane. Long live fuschia, turquoise, and emerald green, I say – how fresh. As for the plunge pool, there is no place better from which to take in the sights and sounds of a hot African afternoon.

It takes daring and smarts to step away from neutral zones and break out in colours that only nature has the courage to do. The result is Africa House. Africa House has not only been populated with furniture sourced from Liz Biden’s wide travel, she has also introduced a riot of accent colour that would fail in the hands not quite as skilled and savvy.

Never before had I experienced the wonders of Africa like this. Royal Malewane is a magical place that stays in your mind forever. I’m always dreaming of going back with my grandson so he too can experience the true Africa and the splendour of the lodge and it’s staff.

One of my first experiences in the bush, staying at Royal Malewane, was the extreme comfort of it all. Every detail was perfection, from the bed linen to the Lapsang Souchong in the tea caddy.

This was a unique experience of a life time. Everything was superb, luxurious and well executed. Everything was looked into the most scrupulous details with a true sense of classic safari romance. Their night-game drives are a must, Fantastic!
