The South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCOB) is a registered NPO whose primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds – especially endangered species like the African penguin. Since its inception in 1968, SANCOB has had 97 000 seabirds admitted, treated 54 different bird species, reared 8372 penguin chicks, and has around 1500 African penguins admitted annually.

SANCCOB is an internationally recognised leader in oiled wildlife response, rehabilitation and chick-rearing; contributes to research which benefits seabirds; trains people to care for the birds and educates the public to develop behavioural patterns which benefit marine life and the environment.

A Message From Liz Biden

South Africa's international borders are now open for all international travel. Travellers require a certified, negative test result taken within 72 hours from the time of departure as well as travel insurance.

Birkenhead House, La Residence and Royal Malewane are open and we look forward to welcoming international visitors back to our beautiful country which offers the perfect tonic to the challenges of the pandemic. The Silo Hotel will reopen on 1 December 2020.

To celebrate, we are offering guests the opportunity to spend 6 nights at any of our properties and only pay for 5 until 31 May 2021.

We have taken every precaution to keep our guests and staff safe. Our hotels and lodges comply with the strictest TBCSA and WHO hygiene protocols and provide ample space for social distancing. South Africa itself has one of the best private healthcare systems in the world.

The Royal Portfolio Foundation remains committed to supporting numerous conservation and community projects including our counter-poaching initiatives and various Covid-19 Relief Feeding Schemes.

We look forward to welcoming our wonderful guests from near and far.

Our expert Reservations Team is on hand to assist with any enquiries.
