Foundation
Supporting the local community
Dr Simoné Fourie is a medical doctor with a private practice who services four primary health care facilities in Bushbuckridge where undersupplied clinics are serving communities in need of medical support and emergency services.
Dr Fourie travels 650km each month to get to the clinics where she provides essential medical services under challenging conditions for 80 hours a month in addition to running her private practice back home. In 2021, an ancillary nurse, Phumi, was employed to give the doctor the assistance she so urgently needs to manage the load during visits to the four primary health care facilities.
To support Dr Fourie’s work, The Royal Portfolio Foundation sponsors the costs and time spent on travel and administration of her services, and has donated glucometers to supply diabetics with essential devices to monitor their blood sugar. Thanks to funding support, Phumi also now travels to the clinics each week to help with administrative services and hands-on assistance in patient care.
