At Birkenhead House, we aim to support and uplift the local community. One of our projects is The Masibulele Crèche. The crèche was opened in 1993 and in 2000 Sweetness took over as the principal. Today they look after about 80 children from infants to 5 years old. They rely on the local council for support, but so much more is needed. There are 6 committed teachers. Parents pay a school fee of about R180 a month and this goes towards 3 meals a day, stationery, toys and toiletries. The vision is to uplift Masibulele crèche to where they can offer growth through education and in time offer training and support for other schools in the area.
Situated in the Zwelihle area, a 15 Minute drive from Birkenhead House we invite you to visit the crèche with us. Your transfer will be complimentary. You are welcome to make a donation towards an item on the below wish list or take a gift with you. We have gift packs of suitable necessities available to purchase from our curio shop for your convenience. Please note that the crèche is closed during weekends and school holidays.
Birkenhead House participates in the “Santa Shoe Box” project, which facilitates the giving of gifts to under-privileged children over the Festive Season. You can sponsor a Santa Shoebox for a child at R300.
In addition to ongoing support, Birkenhead House has with the help of very generous donations from our guests and suppliers, been able to complete the following improvements at the Masibulele crèche:
100% of the donations received are put into the projects at the crèche.
