La Residence supports various child care and early childcare development establishments in the community who look after children while their parents are at work. Most of the children’s parents are in the hospitality or farming industry as Franschhoek is the food and wine capital of South Africa. These establishments aim to provide a caring environment, meals and basic education for children ranging from infants to 6 years old. They are open Monday to Friday from 08h00 – 17h00.

Current Projects:

  • Buying of Sporting Equipment – R5000 per school
  • Stationary – R3000 per school (per term)
  • Food Supplies – R5000 per school (Monthly)
  • Playground Improvement – R5000 to R50 000
  • Educational Toys – R5000 per school
  • Christmas Gifts – R200 per child
  • Sponsoring of a guided hike/picnic to learn about conservation in the Franschhoek area – R5000 per school (in conjunction with Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve)

Wes-Eind is a local Primary School just a short drive from La Residence who focus on education and the well-being of its 570 learners that range from 5 years to 13 years of age. They have 17 dedicated teachers which include 3 cooks that make sure the children receive a plate of food every day. The aim of La Residence is to assist Wes-Eind in expanding educational, cultural and extramural activities that are offered to uplift these children in their growth and development.

We invite you to join on a visit to any of the local schools, which are a short 15 minute drive from the hotel. All transfer are complimentary. You are welcome to make a donation towards an item on the wish list or to take a gift with you. We have gift packs of suitable necessities available to purchase from our curio shop for your convenience. Please note that the crèche is closed during school holidays. If requested in advance we may be able to arrange for guests to view the crèche premises at the times when the school is closed.

La Residence covers the administration costs and 100% of the donations received are put into the projects.

A Message From Liz Biden

Our thoughts are with those around the world battling the direct and indirect effects of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Even though our hotels remain closed, The Royal Portfolio Foundation remains committed to supporting numerous conservation and community projects through this difficult time including our counter-poaching initiatives at Royal Malewane and various Covid-19 Relief Feeding Schemes which need our help now more than ever.

We invite you to take the first step in planning your next trip by purchasing A Royal Portfolio Bond. You will receive an additional 25% in value and we will contribute ZAR2,500 to the Foundation on your behalf.

We encourage those with existing bookings to postpone rather than cancel their trips where possible. Our Reservations Team is available to assist with enquiries Mon – Fri | 8am to 5pm (GMT +2).

Thank you to our guests, staff, suppliers and business partners for your understanding and incredible support as we work together to get through this.

Please visit the South African government's dedicated Covid-19 portal for the latest South African information.

We look forward to a time when we are all able to travel safely and responsibly once again and hope that you will remain inspired by the amazing natural beauty and wildlife of Africa during this difficult time.
