Cape Town has endless events on offer. We've picked a handful to help you plan your month.

There are numerous exciting events and enthralling things to do in and around Cape Town each month. When spoilt for choice, choosing what to attend is often the hardest decision of them all. We’ve selected a few of our favourite events for April to help refine your options.

First Thursdays

A fantastic opportunity to browse galleries, boutiques, and share a drink with locals as the streets of Cape Town come to life every first Thursday of the month. The majority of the action takes place on the streets surrounding Bree Street. Be sure to make a restaurant reservation if it’s dinner you’re after!

Visit the First Thursday site for more information.

Galileo Open Air Cinema

A magical movie night not to be missed. Running from November through to the end of April, with various venues screening films from Wednesday – Sunday each week, the Galileo Open Air Cinema is a fantastic experience for all.

This month’s selection of movies includes Titanic, The Greatest Showman, and The Great Gatsby to name a few.

Curl up with a loved one and watch as the stars, both on screen and up the sky, unfold before your eyes.

For more information visit the Galileo website.

Concerts in the De Waal Park

A fantastic community event, this is a great opportunity to watch some of South Africa’s best-loved musicians in the picturesque De Waal park. Freshlyground, an Afro-fusion band and one of South Africa’s most well known acts, plays on 7 April. Artists are still to be confirmed for the show on 28 April.

A wonderful event for those allured by the outdoors, this event, running from 1-13 April, screens over 20 short films and documentaries. Beautiful features from both local and international directors include films on mountain biking, trail running, conservation in the Okavango Delta, and the award winning ‘Free Solo’, an exhilarating documentary about free climbing in Yosemite National Park.

Afrika Burn

Held annually in the Tankwa Karoo National Park, Afrika Burn is an official Burning Man regional event for South Africa. A remarkable week of creative expression celebrating art, music, and performance, this is certainly something everyone should try.
