It is not long now until The Silo Hotel opens its doors in Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. We take a closer look at what lies inside the incredible glass facade.

The grain silo building comprises Zeitz MOCAA and The Silo Hotel. Zeitz MOCAA occupies the lower levels of the building and the grain silos themselves while The Silo Hotel is situated above the museum in the grain elevator portion of the building. The relationship between Zeitz MOCAA and The Silo Hotel is one of proximity only.

The annotated cross-section below illustrates what is on each floor of The Silo Hotel. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Guests can enter The Silo Hotel from the parking level P3 or from the ground floor lobby beside the museum entrance. From there guests will head up in the elevators to their room or to one of the public floors – 4, 5, 6, 6M or the rooftop.

Level 4

The Silo Spa and Gym are located on level 4. The Silo Spa is a tranquil, white space with five treatment rooms, a relaxation area and a sauna. Two of the treatment rooms can combine into a couple’s treatment room. The Silo Spa will be open to the public and will offer a wide variety of relaxing and therapeutic treatments using the finest local and international products.

Level 5

General Manager, Luis Pinheiro and his experienced team can be found on Level 5 where the offices, staff canteen and guest loos are located.

Level 6

This is the main public floor. There will be a reception/concierge desk, a boutique shop (showcasing a few of Liz’s favourite accessories and books) and a weighbridge across to the Zeitz MOCAA sculpture garden.

Level 6 will be one open and vibrant space where guests can enjoy something to eat or drink throughout the day. The Willaston Bar (on the southern side of the building) will enjoy remarkable views of Table Mountain and the city and will offer a wide selection of classic cocktails and fine wines from South Africa and abroad.

The style of the cuisine at The Silo will be delicious and approachable morning, noon and night.

The Willaston Bar has been named after the very first ship to carry grain from the grain silos to Europe in 1924 – SS Willaston. The Willaston Bar will merge seamlessly into The Granary Café on the northern side of the building with views over Table Bay, the V&A Waterfront and Robben Island.

The Granary Café will be the domain of Executive Chef Veronica Canha-Hibbert and her team of talented chefs offering breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner seven days a week. It will serve contemporary comfort food with a focus on fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. The Granary Café will be the perfect meeting place for locals and international visitors alike.

Level 6M

The mezzanine level will have several private meeting rooms which can also be private dining rooms, there will also be a library which will be a private space for hotel guests only. The Wisdom Room will be able to seat 24 and there will be two smaller meeting rooms which seat 6 in each. MV Wisdom was the last ship to take grain abroad in 1995 before operations ceased at the grain silo in 2001.

The first two bedrooms are also on this level – 603 and 604 – both Superior Suites.

Levels 7 - 10

The rest of the hotel bedrooms are located on floors 7-10. Floor 7 has a mezzanine level which provides additional floor space in the Family Suites and Superior Suites. The Superior Suites have a sitting room on one level and the bedroom and bathroom on another level. The four Superior Suites on level 7 are in the centre of the building.

The two-bedroom Family Suites are located on the four corners of the 7th floor. Both en-suite bedrooms are upstairs and there is a cloakroom in the downstairs sitting room.

The Deluxe Superior Suites are the signature rooms of The Silo Hotel and are located on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors.

There are two, two bedroom Royal Suites facing Robben Island on the 9th and 10th floors, while the one bedroom penthouse is located on the 10th floor. The 211m2 , triple-aspect penthouse offers unsurpassed views of Cape Town.

Level 11 - Rooftop

Like the 6th Floor, guests can enjoy something to eat or drink anywhere at the rooftop bar and restaurant. Green astro-turf adds colour to the bare industrial concrete. There is a magnificent rooftop swimming pool decorated with intricate blue mosaics which will be for hotel guests only. For the best views in Cape Town, head up to the Sky Terrace on top of the building’s core.
