A Refurbished Royal Malewane and the new Masiya Bar

Royal Malewane

Royal Malewane recently underwent an extensive refurbishment, one which covered the structural integrity of the beautiful lodge as well as some exciting new additions.

As always, Liz and Phil Biden were there to oversee the process, ensuring that Liz’s distinctive style was integrated into the lodge’s alluring additions including the spectacular red sofas in the main dining area.

Contemporary and classical chairs made with Ardmore fabrics adorn the six luxury suites.

But at the forefront of the refurbishment lies the beautiful new Masiya Bar. This tranquil addition pays homage to the history of Royal Malewane and its Master Trackers, in particular, Wilson Masiya. Wilson was a part of The Royal Portfolio family since we opened our doors in 1999 and was a formidable part of the guest experience at Royal Malewane, his incredible love and wisdom for the bush having a lasting effect on all he encountered.

Guests will be able to share stories of the day’s adventures over a cocktail or dine in this unique space decorated with Dedon furniture which blends into the natural environment much like a traditional hide around a watering hole.

The Masiya Bar was built on the site of the existing boma, right on the water’s edge, and showcases our fabulous collection of gins and over 50 whiskies.

Apart from the exciting new Masiya Bar and other stylish additions to the lodge, the following work was completed to ensure the structural integrity of the lodge:

  • New walls and floors in the suites
  • All wooden decking and door frames have been reconditioned
  • New gazebo entrances to The Royal Suites

“The refurbishment has given the entire lodge a lovely lift while retaining the classic safari style and relaxed atmosphere that our guests have enjoyed for nearly 20 years”

  • New thatching throughout the lodge
  • Resurfacing of all pools while retaining all the water in large tanks
  • A number of new walkways, as well as a pond, now interlink various areas around the main lodge
  • Spa upgrades including a new hot tub

We have also upgraded our Kosher Kitchen and expanded the space ensuring that we can prepare fresh and delicious meals using the finest kosher ingredients. Our team has been trained to understand the subtleties of kosher requirements and the kitchen has been fitted with all the necessary equipment.

We are delighted with the refurbishment results and look forward to welcoming our guests into our beautiful new Masiya Bar at Royal Malewane.

There are more exciting developments in the pipeline including The Farmstead at Royal Malewane which will open in mid-2019. Building is underway.
